Dataplex Research & Development
R&D capabilities

Dataplex has capability in Industrial Electronics; Data Communications and Telecommunications, from a product design, approvals, manufacturing, installation and maintenance basis, it has produced and successfully sold many of it’s products both domestically and internationally, with many of its products still in operation for as long as 17 years.

Dataplex has provided consulting services over that time to many companies in area's of design, manufacturing expertise, product safety and Telecom/Austel/ACA approvals as well as gaining many overseas approvals for Australian developed Data and Telecommunications products for many clients.

With its current team of R&D engineers, Dataplex has the experience in producing such devices as:

  • Battery Charging (NiMh, Li-Ion)
  • Data Communications (RS232, RS422, V35, X21)
  • Data Communication accessories
  • Dial up & Leased Line cable modems - Telephony 2 Wire, 4 Wire and modems up to 56kbaud.

Technical capabilities
Dataplex engineers provide technical and engineering support all for Dataplex & ATL Systems. Our services include engineering analysis and studies, design, production and field engineering, test and evaluation, support and configuration, program and technical data management.

Setting the specifications
Dataplex R&D helps the customer specify the requirements for the Product/System Requirements Specification of the electronics system, which involves the following:

  • Functional Requirements
  • Environmental Requirements
  • Mechanical Requirements
  • Certification Requirements
  • Reliability Requirements (and how are they to be determined)

Involves the generation and approval of two deliverables

  1. Product Design Specification (or Design Concept)
  2. Product Development Plan - based on the design concept.

Electronics design
Dataplex R&D designs all of the electronics required to fulfill the specifications, including analog, digital and programmable devices (usually a single Gate Array device).

FPGA layout
Dataplex R&D places, routes and optimizes the user programmable devices (Gate Arrays)

Simulation
Parts or all of the design, depending on complexity of the specific design (more complex implies more simulation), are simulated to shorten the overall development time.

PCB layout
Dataplex R&D places and routes the PCB (printed circuit board), with dedicated attention to all the critical lines and devices.

Software testing program
Dataplex R&D programs specific testing software to activate and test each gate/transistor in the design, assuring that all possible failures will be detected.

Prototyping
Dataplex R&D assembles prototypes and fully tests them to the extremes to assure that the specifications are fulfilled.

Integration
Dataplex R&D helps the customer to integrate the developed electronics into its whole system (possibly utilizing mechanics, software or other technologies).
