AccessPoint Manager (DPX-310-02)

AccessPoint-Manager is a Network Management System that provides centralised management of the AccessPoint family. The management system (which requires the nest Controller Card, AccessPoint-Controller) offers network or serial based management. Features include proactive management, modem configuration, security, diagnostics and statistics gathering. Management of all data communication and fax resources is made easy via a Windows point and click interface. AccessPoint-Manager enables an organisation to control communication costs and minimise risks associated with dial-in/dial-out access.

AccessPoint-Manager automates the process of modem configuration, on-line surveillance and statistics collection. The Network Manager can pin-point terminal, modem and circuit failures immediately; determine the action to be taken before an event occurs; observe call activity; log all network events; enforce different levels of access security; log configuration status and a host of other features that make management of an AccessPoint-Nest of modems flexible and powerful.

  • SNMP, Ethernet and RS-232 management of modems
  • Proactive management
  • Supports PSTN and ISDN connections
  • ODBC logging database
  • Display and monitoring of DCE/DTE interface lead status
  • Continuous logging and statistics of nest/network activity
  • Notification of nest alarm conditions and status change
  • Monitor and log line quality, call duration and volume of characters sent or received
  • Control of Busy-out status on any device
  • Time of day/day of week user access control
  • Multiple group assignment for user access control and security
  • Firmware download option
  • Local or remote updates for operating code stored in flash RAM
  • Local and remote diagnostics
  • Full configuration of Dataplex 300 series rack mount modems and other devices, locally and remotely
  • Point and click functionality with simple to use
  • Windows interface
  • Extensive on-line help facility
  • Designed and written by Dataplex in Australia

Powerful Configuration Options
Powerful management features permit the configuration of many modems simultaneously. Modem settings can be stored and recalled at end of calls and copied to other modems.

Proactive Management
Proactive Management allows action to be taken without administrator intervention - responding to events before they occur. Actions defined for a given event may include generate event, reset modem and busy out. These may be taken on the basis of a predefined number of consecutive occurrences or a percentage of calls.

Ease of Management
Via an SNMP manager or an RS232 serial link, the Network Administrator may manage a nest of DPX-325 and future Dataplex designed modems. Where management of a single nest is required, AccessPoint-Manager can communicate via a serial port. Where multiple nests require management, or the nest is located on a network, AccessPoint-Manager can communicate using industry standard SNMP.

Extensive Diagnostics and Statistics
Statistics include dial-in logs, graph and report generation facilities. Information can be visually presented to show event data and communications network activity. Diagnostic tools permit testing, verifying, fault management and monitoring modem operation - in real-time.

Tools for Modem Monitoring
Information on time, date and duration of calls, frequency of use, connection speed, use of error correction/ data compression can be recorded and viewed at any time. Using the AccessPoint-Manager Reporting Tool, the Network Administrator can obtain vital information needed to properly manage all dial-in/dial-out communications. Monitoring tools coupled with diagnostics tools permit performance analysis and periodic reporting. On-going costs associated with dial-up access can be monitored and subsequently controlled.

Enhanced Security Option
With the AccessPoint-Security option, the System Administrator can define different security levels for different user groupings. The Administrator may select password security only or password verification with same/different line callback (standard). Enhanced security options include keycard based access, DES token challenge/response, DES based encryption and no security at all. A user database details user-IDs, passwords, acceptable access dates and times and security access levels.
